Masoyi Covid Relief Increasing our support in a time of great need

Organised by Masoyi Trust (UK)

There is more hunger in the Masoyi communityas a result of Covid-19. And we want to be able to complete a house extension for the Mph. family, who currently have a single room. The two young women were orphaned in 2002, as a young child and a baby.

Story

South Africa has one of the highest number of recorded cases of coronavirus in Sub-Saharan Africa. The cost of the virus is being disproportionally shouldered by the poorest in the country. Job and income losses have further plunged vulnerable children and families in to food poverty. There is an urgent need to provide more food support to families in the Masoyi area.

eMasoyi have a food store for emergency food parcels for both patients and children, and we would like to help re-stock it for them. £20 will supply basic food for a month for a household of three, so every £1,000 will fund 50 food parcels. Target: £2,000.

Furthermore, the existing needs of the community continue and we have been notified of a family desperately needing safe and secure accommodation. In a time where isolating in our homes is of paramount importance, we are looking to complete a house extension for two young orphaned, vulnerable women. Target: £2,000.

Join us as we seek to mitigate the devastating impacts of coronavirus and poverty on the most vulnerable people in Masoyi.

17 October 2020. Sue Gibbons' Peak Pilgrimage Fund-raiser has contributed a massive £1,720 towards the current total of £3,600!

At the end of September, we were able to send £2,000 for emergency food parcels; £500 to complete fitting out a house for six orphan children; and £1,000 to start building a house for a further six orphans. We expect to need about £2,000 more to finish this one.
