Our UK projects, Petra, Action Pantry and Clothesline support families in need across the South West by providing accommodation, food, and clothes. In the Philippines, we help street children to regain lost years by providing residential care, a schooling program and a drop-in centre.

Story

As Covid-19 has grown into a global pandemic more and more countries have put in stringent measures to prevent its spread. While this will keep us safe from coronavirus, for many people these measures are triggering a new crisis.

Hunger!

In the Philippines the city shut downs have led to parents not being able to provide for their families, resulting in thousands of children going hungry this week. The poorest of the poor who live hand to mouth everyday relying on their income from selling drinks and snacks on the street, driving tricycles or washing cars for example, now have no form of income. Government promises of food have yet to materialise and we know they wont have the capacity to reach everyone.

Childhood hunger is not just being impacted in developing countries. Families in the UK are also being hard hit with the closure of schools, that provide vital lunches and food clubs. As well as many parents having to take unpaid leave.

Action pantry our Bath based fresh food bank is continuing through this time and the calls on it are greater than ever, but the amounts of food we're receiving are no longer guaranteed. We have also had to stop distribution from our centre and are now having to provide home deliveries.

There are a number of ways you can help us fight hunger.

1. Give, help us smash our £2,500 target. Just £10 helps us provide a food parcel for a family.

2. Donate food, If you live in Bath or surrounding areas and can donate food or goods please contact clothesline@mercyinaction.org.uk to arrange for it to be picked up.

3. Support our shops. While we can remain open safely we will. Donations are still being accepted and you can pop by to buy toys, books, games and crafts.

4. Prayer. Please join with us praying for all those effected by this pandemic.

We need your support now more than ever. We are grateful for the wonderful community we have and know when we come together we see great things happen.
