Emergency Appeal

Calamity · 31 July 2023
As Covid-19 has grown into a global pandemic more and more countries have put in stringent measures to prevent its spread. While this will keep us safe from coronavirus, for many people these measures are triggering a new crisis.
Hunger!
In the Philippines the city shutdowns have led to parents not being able to provide for their families, resulting in thousands of children going hungry this week. The poorest of the poor who live hand to mouth every day relying on their income from selling drinks and snacks on the street, driving tricycles or washing cars for example, now have no form of income. Government promises of food have yet to materialise and we know they wont have the capacity to reach everyone.
Childhood hunger is not just being impacted in developing countries. Families in the UK are also being hard hit with the closure of schools, that provide vital lunches and food clubs. As well as many parents having to take unpaid leave.
