MSP have been making a big difference to people affected by domestic abuse in Middlesbrough through emotional, practical and therapeutic support since 2002. Your support will allow us to reach more people earlier so we can help improve safety and reduce physical and psychological harm. Thank you.

Story

Domestic abuse statistics are frightening!

* 1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse (DA) during their lifetime.

* A domestic abuse related call is made to the police every 30 seconds.

* 1 in 5 teenage girls have experienced domestic abuse in a relationship.

* DA often begins or escalates in pregnancy.

* 1 in 3 pregnant women experience DA.

* 62% of children living with DA are directly harmed by the perpetrator.

* Women are twice as likely to die at the hands of their partner than from smoke or gas inhalation!

* Women are 3 times more likely to be killed by a partner than by not wearing a seatbelt!

* Between April 2019 and March 2022, on average, at least one woman a week was killed by a male partner/ex-partner

It can happen to anyone, at any time in their life, regardless of their age, marital status, sexuality or economic background.

No person deserves to be abused and everyone should feel safe in their own home.
