Story
After years of service, our vans are at the end of their road.
We use our vans on a daily basis: to carry equipment, food products, and most of all to get the food out. In Calais as well in London, our vans travel miles every day to get to various locations where hundreds of hot, delicious, nutritious meals are distributed to people in need. With more than 2 millions meals delivered since Refugee Community Kitchen started ten years ago, our vans aren’t only part of the kitchen: they are the only means we have to reach out to displaced people and deliver the food to them, day in, day out.
We bought our current vans second-hand years ago, (our oldest van, New Hotfood, joined our team in 2016!), and they have been the backbone of our daily operations. We simply couldn’t work without them.
Our vans have been the backbone of our daily operations. We simply couldn't work without them.
But as our vans get older, they need more and more fixing, which means our vans spend more time at the garage instead of helping us distribute the food, and RCK spends more and more on repairs. We need to face the facts: the best money-saving solution is to buy a new second-hand van. That way, we won’t be spending precious money and time fixing issues.
Why £25,000? This is roughly the price for a good quality second-hand van, with a cab for the volunteers that will keep us going for another 2 million meals at least.
