With the support of our local community we have been able to provide a grant of £2m towards creating a new Orthopaedic Centre at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
There has been a strong tradition of Orthopaedics in Norwich, with the first ‘pure’ Orthopaedic Surgeon being appointed to the Hospital in 1935.
Norwich was also at the forefront of the development of hip replacement surgery in the 1950s & 60s.
There are now 30 Orthopaedic Consultants in Norwich, providing highly specialist care in areas such as Spine, shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, foot and ankle and paediatric & trauma reconstruction.
As well as being an elective surgery unit the N&N is one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the UK.
With your help we can continue to provide funding for the extras, over and above what the NHS must or should provide.
Our next appeal is for a low dose 3D X-Ray Imaging System, which will provide benefits who need frequent radiographic monitoring, such as those with scoliosis and other spinal or leg-length deformities.
Reducing radiation exposure and improving diagnostic accuracy, as well as enabling improved planning for surgical procedures will be a big improvement for patients, particularly children and young people, who may need to have x-rays for their whole lifetime.
This additional scanning equipment will also help to reduce waiting times for scoliosis diagnostic imaging, and will provide research opportunities, particularly with future use of AI systems to track long term conditions.
