Story

By making a donation to our fund you are supporting our Neonatal Unit to improve care for sick and premature babies and their families. All donations are invaluable in supporting the work we do. Any donation however big or small will go a long way to help our little ones and their families.

We are the only Neonatal Unit in Cornwall and we have a total of 20 cots. When using our charity funds, we focus on improving patient/family experience and improving patient care. The ideas for ways to improve both of these things come directly from our own staff and patient families.

Some recent purchases have been;

Reclining chairs for every bed space (£25k) to facilitate an environment suitable for extended skin to skin cuddles for parents and babies.

A fully equipped parents kitchenette to allow them some space away from the nurseries to replenish and rehydrate.

A resuscitation system for every bed space.

Furnished 5 bedrooms with double beds, TVs, bedside cabinets and all the additional linen that our new improved facilities now require. Each Neonatal Intensive care cot costs over £60,000 to fully equip, we have purchased equipment to help babies breathe (£6k-£28k each), an incubator (£26k) several breast pumps (£2k each) to help mums express their precious milk, milk warmers (£1k each) for warming milk to the optimum temperature for our babies fragile tummies and devices for treating jaundice (£5k each).

We have also funded a video diary system (£4k) for families on the Neonatal Unit, so staff can securely send parents photos and videos of their little ones to put their mind at ease when they are not able to be present on the Unit.

If you would like to organise a fundraising event, or perhaps looking for a charity to support at work or at school, then please speak to a member of staff or contact the RCHT Charity Fundraising Team rcht.charity@nhs.net 01872 252858.

On behalf of all of the staff and our babies and families on NNU... Thank you!
