Story

This week we received the best news that Noah is a candidate for a life changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery and has been put on the waiting list at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Noah was born 10 weeks early. At a year old he was given an MRI where he was diagnosed with diplegia cerebral palsy, affecting mainly his legs. This doesnt stop Noah though and his strength and determination blows us away on a daily basis. Noah has a love of life and is always giggling. Physiotherapy and stretching are a daily part of his life and Noah can wake in the night distressed and upset with extremely painful cramps in his leg muscles.

Unfortunately, SDR is an extremely expensive procedure and Noah wont be covered by the NHS. SDR is a procedure which can reduce spasticity and improve Noahs mobility and the discomfort he experiences. We need to raise £40,000 for Just4Children to support the SDR surgery. The aim is to reduce spasticity in the lower limbs by cutting the nerve rootlets in the spinal canal that are sending abnormal signals to the muscles. It has been a long process in getting to this stage.

Further funds would be used for the extremely important post op period, of which a minimum of two years intense physio is needed. Specialist equipment could be required by Noah in the coming years too.

We believe SDR would give Noah the best quality of life possible.
