The problem
The job market isn’t built for young people from less privileged backgrounds. The evidence is clear - they're less likely to get strong outcomes at school and university, more likely to face unemployment, and often experience multiple barriers to work including disability, racial discrimination, or experience in the care system.
Nearly one million young people in the UK are currently not earning or learning - the highest level in a decade - yet there’s not nearly enough provision to help them access fairly paid work.
Our Solution
NTT DATA is supporting GoodWork, a youth employment and social mobility charity, empowering young people with the confidence, skills and networks needed to launch their careers, while working with employers and policymakers to make the systems change needed for underrepresented talent to thrive.
GoodWork's mentoring and employability programme prepares young adults for the world of work, through training, work experience and one-to-one support. The young people they work with have typically left education without the qualifications or connections they need to access sustainable, fulfilling employment. They have plenty of potential, but need help to kickstart their careers.
The charity is also proud to advocate for more inclusive and accessible approaches to entry-level hiring. In a world of work where around three-fifths (61%) of internships are unpaid and employers routinely use degrees as a key indicator of potential, GoodWork knows how important it is to rethink how we identify talent.
