Story
Operation Sunrise - Phase 1 (Architect & Planning)
Why is a new kennel block needed?:
Our kennels were built over 30 years ago by those running the boarding kennels before Jutta & Terry took over, a lot with whatever materials were available to them at the time. Although it has served us well and we have made several repairs to it over the years, we have reached the point where making good on this building any further is just not viable both financially and physically. Our biggest problem is with the roof of which a new one is not possible so we have no choice but to start afresh with a new kennel block which will also give us the below added benefits:
1. More energy efficient building long term.
2. Better temperature controlled for the winter and summer months.
3. Better soundproofing to help our dogs be more relaxed during their stay, of which neighboring properties will also benefit.
4. New isolation kennel layout for new dogs and dogs recovering from operations.
5. New kitchen / storage area layout to be able to enter the block without disturbing the dogs.
6. Reduction in costs and maintenance time to fix areas in the current block
Our dogs, as they should be, are our top priority. Our non-destruction policy and also our attitude towards taking on dogs who have been turned away by lots of other rescues because they may need a bit of help, means we can have dogs stay with us for a long time so we want to be able to provide them with the very best home that we can for however long they need to call us home. Last year we rehomed 3 of our long term residents who had been with us for about 3 years each, which is why we never give up, as that perfect person or family could be just around the corner. A lot of the dogs that come to us have already been given up on once, but when they arrive here, they will not be given up on again.
How you can help:
There are so many ways in which you can help, from sharing our posts, donating and fundraising. If you would like to be involved and be a part of 'Operation Sunrise' you can:
1. Simply donate. The price of a coffee would help greatly and mean more than you know. All donations that come to us for ‘Operation Sunrise’ will go into a pot specifically for this project.
2. Raise £30 for our 30th Birthday in our '30 for 30' challenge. A cake sale, quiz night, dress down day at work, whatever you wish to do. Become a '30 for 30 Hero' and let us know what you're doing so we can give you a mention on our social media.
As the project continues through the phases, we will have further ways to help and get involved further down the line.
If you have any other ideas of how you’d like to help out; a sponsored event etc we’d love to hear them!
We are now in ‘Phase 1 - Architect & Planning’
We have an architect on board who has visited our site and prepared a quotation for the concept and application design and necessary elements to submit for planning approval. Their quote is £5,500 + vat. There will be some additional fees to cover surveys etc that are needed, but at this stage we do not have a quote for those so we have put the target currently for phase 1 at £5,500 + vat and will amend as we move through this first phase and when that additional cost information is available to us.
If we raise more than is needed for phase 1, all further funds will go into the pot for phase 2.
