Stop Plans for a High Rise at 1 Burlington - Fund a Judicial Review to Overturn the Planning Consent

OCPS is leading a Judicial Review of the planning consent for 1 Burlington. This 42m high rise is twice the height of surrounding buildings. It has a hugely negative impact on the historic surrounding area of Old Chiswick and the public benefit.

Story

Planning has been approved for a high development at 1 Burlington, on the Hogarth Roundabout. It will be 42m high, a monstrous nearly double the height of the current building of 24m. OCPS is applying for a Judicial Review, which is the last chance to stop this development in its current form. But we need funds for the legal fees that this involves.

The proposed development is largely residential, but comprises very few affordable housing units (6% v/s 35% target), none of which are at the higher levels. The height and bulk of the proposed building will negatively impact the surrounding historic environment and numerous listed buildings (please see the developers plans that we have posted here). The view into Old Chiswick will be seriously jeopardised. The planning was opposed by numerous bodies, including Hounslow's own Conservation Officer, Historic England, the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Hammersmith & Fulham MP, the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, OCPS, Chiswick House Trust, Hogarth House Trust and hundreds of residents.

These objections were all ignored by the Hounslow Planning Committee and by the Mayor of London.

Old Chiswick is one of the last few un-spoilt areas of Thames-side London, with no huge developments or high rises. Hundreds of visitors walk along the beautiful, peaceful river paths every weekend. A testament to its charm and uniqueness. It truly feels like taking a walk back in time and is free for every Londoner and visitor to enjoy. Please help us to preserve this for everyone, now and for future generations.
