Story

Update 15/05/2026

We're so sorry to be saying this.

It is with absolutely broken hearts that we share that Pebble has sadly passed away.

After everything she had already survived, we really thought Pebble was finally getting her chance. Her surgery went well, the mass removed from her spleen was confirmed not to be cancerous and although she still had a long recovery ahead of her, she amazed everyone her with her strength.

But in the weeks following her surgery, Pebble became poorly again. At one of her post-op checks, vets found that her blood count had dropped dangerously low and they began to suspect she may have been suffering from an autoimmune condition. She was given emergency treatment and we prepared ourselves to admit her back into hospital if she did not improve overnight.

Devastatingly, by the following day, Pebble had deteriorated even more. We did not want to give up on her. We consulted with five trusted vet surgeons, desperately hoping there was still another option, another treatment, another chance for her. But sadly, they all agreed that Pebble’s condition was no longer treatable and that the kindest thing we could do for her was to let her go peacefully.

We are absolutely shattered.

We fought so hard for Pebble and she fought so hard too. After a life where she had been neglected, overbred and discarded, we wanted more than anything for her story to end differently. We wanted her to finally get the long, happy life she always deserved.

But although we could not give her years, we're trying to take comfort in knowing that we were still able to give her the chance to experience how her life should have been.

During her final weeks, Pebble knew love, safety and kindness. She had home cooked meals, the fluffiest beds to snuggle in and as many cuddles as she could possibly ask for. She was adored by every single person who met her and all we hope is that she left this world knowing she finally mattered to people.

To everyone who donated, shared her fundraiser, sent kind messages or kept her in your thoughts, thank you. Because of your generosity, Pebble got her chance. She received the surgery, the specialist care and the love she should have always had. We know this news will be deeply upsetting to so many people who followed her journey, and we are so sorry that this story could not have the ending we all hoped for.

We will never stop caring for dogs like Pebble, we will always fight for them and do whatever we possibly can to protect them and give them the lives they deserve, and now we'll be doing it with the memory of Pebble kept close in our hearts.

Thank you for loving Pebble with us, we'll never forget her.

Update 22/04/2026

We've got our girl back!

3 blood transfusions, 2 overnight hospital stays and 1 spleen removed. She did it, she made it through and as the vets told us over the phone, you'd never know she had just been through major surgery. She's up and alert, but she's got a long recovery ahead of her, not just to recover from the surgery but also to start getting her blood count up. She had lost so much blood through the internal bleeding that it's going to take a long time for her bone marrow and cells to replenish. She's going to have a lot of blood test and check ups over the next few weeks, but so far, she seems like she's feeling a bit better already.

To sum up Pebble's personality, even when we were collecting her from the vets, she was going over to everyone in the waiting room to say hello. She had every right to feel groggy and rotten, but she was just so happy to see people and get some fusses. She has such a pure heart and kind soul. She's going to be staying with a staff member in foster care now, to make sure she recovers well.

Update 20/04/2026

THANK YOU! We have hit our £5,000 target so quickly and we're so happy to say that thanks to your kindness, Pebble's operation has been confirmed and scheduled in. She will spend the first night in hospital, getting her preliminary blood transfusion, then she will have a full splenectomy with another blood transfusion during surgery, another overnight stay and a third transfusion before (hopefully) being discharged and coming back to us. The vets have been very clear through her diagnosis and consultations that the stakes really couldn't be higher for Pebble. Quite frankly, the fact she made it this long is a miracle, but we believe in our girl to keep defying the odds and make it through all of this. Everyone who has met Pebble so far has fallen in love with her, as we dropped her off at the vets, one of the nurses cried along with us, because we just can't believe what a tough life this beautiful dog has had so far. We're keeping records throughout to keep Pebble's supporters updated, so check back for more news. Thank you, again, so much.

We first heard about Pebble through an email from a pound puller. She had reached the end of her time, after weeks of waiting, no one had claimed her. No one was looking for her. No one was coming back. She was alone.

We don’t know exactly what her life would have looked like before now, but we can piece together enough to know it wouldn’t have been kind. Pebble has been used for breeding, not just once or twice, not just accidentally, repeatedly used and reused until she had nothing left to give. Her rare colouring and gentle nature would have made her valuable for producing puppies, and when she couldn’t anymore, she was thrown away. Left behind like she had never mattered at all.

You wouldn’t guess that Pebble had known such coldness if you met her today. She would come plodding up to you, rest her chin on your knee, and look at you with a raised eyebrow and a wagging tail, wondering if you’d like to give her a cuddle and share your seat. You’d see the trust and love she has in her eyes, and then your eyes would shift to notice her skinny body, her stretched skin, her pale gums and you would wonder how anyone could ever have been cruel enough to let this happen, because now Pebble is just 2 years old, and she’s already running out of time.

Pebble has a large mass on her spleen that has been slowly bleeding internally for a long time. It’s been silently draining her from the inside out, leaving her weak, exhausted, and critically ill. If this had been caught earlier, Pebble could have avoided suffering for so long, but sadly no one was around to care. Our vets have been clear that at any moment the mass could rupture and kill her in an instant. Pebble will lose her life before she even got a chance to live it.

Pebble urgently needs a blood transfusion followed by surgery to remove her spleen. This is her only chance.

The cost of the treatment is around £5,000 which feels overwhelming for a small rescue like ours, but walking away from her is not an option.

She deserves the chance to know a life where she is loved for the amazing dog she is, and not just what she can produce.

Right now, she’s being kept as comfortable as possible. Tonight, she’ll be staying at home with one of our team where she can be warm and safe, we don’t want it to be her last.

If you can donate anything at all, it could save Pebble’s life.

She has given everything she had, over and over again for other people. Please help us finally give something back to her. Help us give her a life.
