Story

Tens of thousands of migrants are currently still stuck in Greece's refugee camps, forming part of the most severe crisis of forcibly displaced people since WWII. Among these are many children, having fled their war-ridden countries, who are confronted daily with the angst and trauma of having no place to call home, and no guarantee of a safe future.

At Wind-Up Penguin, we want to help ensure every child gets access to the crucial elements of a healthy childhood: laughter, stories, games, and a safe space to play and be creative.

Which is why, this December, we will be visiting refugee camps, squats and community centres in and around Athens to share music and theatre with children and young people who face extremely challenging circumstances.

We are a team of five music and drama students studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. We will be working closely with local NGOs and smaller grassroots organisation to deliver a new wordless show, with which we aim to inspire children and make them laugh. In our workshops we want to enable children and young people to channel their energy into something creative in a safe space.

Our company is run entirely by students and young graduates. We fund and fundraise for these projects ourselves, which is why we're asking for YOUR help now.

Thank you! Ruth, Daisy, Zoe, Ruby, and Caleb
