Story
In summer 2026, a group of Plymouth University students will embark on an unforgettable journey to Peru, trekking to the fabled ruins of Machu Picchu – nestled amongst lush forest, emerging from the mysterious mist that surrounds its peaks.
The multi-day Salkantay Trek will lead the team through diverse ecosystems, from steep mountain passes to dense jungle trails, while sleeping under the stars, before reaching the Lost City. This will be an incredible adventure and powerful challenge, as the team works towards something truly meaningful.
Each member of the Plymouth University Machu Picchu challenge is raising up to £4,590 in support of Street Child.
Street Child is an international children's education charity, active in more than 20 of the world's most low-income and disaster-struck countries, with a purpose to breakdown all the barriers that prevent a child from being safe, in school and learning.
At the heart of our approach is a commitment to working with local-level in-country organisations. We know that real, lasting change happens when local communities lead the way. Our work includes building and refurbishing schools, training teachers, enrolling children into class, and supporting families and caregivers to develop small businesses to financially and sustainably support the costs of their children's education.
Street Child's partnership with Choose a Challenge shows the powerful synergy of students supporting students. A chance for students in the UK to stand in solidarity with children and youth around the world.
During a time where major government donors are making cuts to global aid - resulting in a 25% drop of funding for education - your support of Street Child is critical to ensuring children around the world get access to the education they deserve.
Thank you!
