Story
The 4ED Foundation are thrilled to launch our head-to-head team cycle race to raise vital funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease. The Race to The Slater Cup will take place ahead of the next Slater Cup fixture, created in honour of former Gloucester and Leicester Tigers player Ed Slater, after his diagnosis with MND in 2022. 50% of the proceeds will go to Lewis Moody and/or his chosen charity, and 50% will go to the 4ED Foundation.
The Race to the Slater Cup teams will be captained by England legends Mike Tindall (Gloucester Rugby) and Martin Johnson CBE (Leicester Tigers) and made up of former players from both sides, to be announced over the coming weeks, and they will race approximately 45 miles from their respective home stadiums (Kingsholm and Welford Road) to Villa Park, in a bid to be the first to arrive.
What is the 4ED Foundation?
The 4ED Foundation supports anyone living with Motor Neurone Disease or caring for someone who is. Established, after his diagnosis, by former rugby player Ed Slater, we provide grants, compassion, and community to individuals and families affected by MND, covering vital equipment, home adaptations, access to medical care, and much-needed respite or family time.
A diagnosis of MND can overturn life as people know it. Through 4ED, we can bring stability, dignity and hope at a time when uncertainty and fear can dominate. So far, thanks to your kind donations, 4ED has given more than 100 life-changing grants, worth more than £220,000.
By supporting #RacetoTheSlaterCup, you’re helping to ensure that people with MND and their families never have to face this journey alone. Your support will help us to continue our work and expand our reach, so that we can be there for as many people as we can, every step of the way.
