Action Tutoring is a national education charity dedicated to supporting pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve a meaningful level of academic attainment, with a view to enabling them to progress to further education, employment or training. We do this by harnessing the power of volunteers.

Story

Year after year, the data tells us that education in this country is not equal.

Right now, pupils facing disadvantage are, on average, over a year and a half behind their peers. It’s an unfair gap that Action Tutoring are determined to close.

Our targeted, small-group tutoring programmes can leapfrog a child forward, making them more likely to achieve crucial pass grades in their SATs and GCSE English and maths, opening doors to future opportunities.

Our vision is for a world in which no child’s life chances are limited by their socio-economic background.

In 2025, Year 6 pupils we supported closed the gap in reading after ten or more sessions, meeting the expected standard in their SATs at the same rate as children who were not from disadvantaged backgrounds nationally.

Tutoring improves grades.

Every child has potential.

Your family’s income should not determine your chances of success.

By donating, you are supporting us to continue our transformative work, which is fundamentally changing the trajectory of young lives across the country.

“Honestly, I thought I wasn’t going to pass anything, but when I looked at my results, I nearly passed everything. In normal class you don’t get as much time with the teacher, but with tutoring you get that focus. Without Action Tutoring I wouldn’t have passed." Grace, GCSE pupil, 2026
