Story
As an official charity partner of the Reading Half Marathon 2027, our runners are dedicating hours of their time to train for the largest local race all to support our charity, because they understand how vital we are to our members and want to make a difference with your help.
Camp Mohawk supports families who have a child, or in some cases multiple children, with special needs. Set within five acres of peaceful woodland in Wargrave, Berkshire, the centre provides a safe, fully adapted environment where families can spend quality time together. The site is designed to ensure that every visitor feels supported, offering both indoor and outdoor facilities that are carefully adapted to meet the diverse needs of all children. This inclusive setting allows service users to relax, connect, and enjoy shared experiences in a welcoming and understanding space.
Family Days ensure that the whole family can visit together, with siblings made to feel valued by being fully included in the activities and facilities available at the centre, regardless of their age or ability.
Camp Mohawk also provides a Short Breaks service, similar to an after-school club but with a unique focus. It supports children who are able to attend independently but may experience social challenges, giving them the opportunity to take part in activities and build friendships within a safe and supportive environment. This helps them develop confidence and essential social skills, supporting their journey towards greater independence in adulthood.
During school term time, Camp Mohawk also provides a safe and secure setting for SEN schools to visit. This enables pupils to practise managing the challenges associated with transitions, while enjoying the freedom of play in an environment that feels less restrictive than the traditional school setting.
As Camp Mohawk receives no government funding, it relies on fundraising to continue supporting over 900 local families. This vital support ensures the charity can provide a safe, calm, and inclusive space for families to enjoy time together and avoid the sense of isolation felt so often when it is difficult to access activities in the local community.
