Story
Did you know that 1 in 4 children left primary school in 2018 unable to read to the expected standard and that 1 in 7 adults lacks basic reading skills? With your support we can help change this. Please join us by attending a special lunch in aid of Schoolreaders. We are hoping that as many guests as possible will then consider hosting their own Relay Lunch for Literacy, allowing us to give even more children the ability to read well.
One reason why many children are falling behind with their reading is that they lack opportunities to read one-to-one with an adult. Schoolreaders helps to address this by recruiting volunteers to listen to children read in local primary schools. The scheme has proved so successful that our volunteers are supporting nearly 9,000 children every week across the country.
Schoolreaders provides our service to schools for free - allowing all schools to benefit. But we do have to raise funds to cover the cost of recruiting and matching our volunteers with schools, and continuing to support them.
