Story
Cricket Builds Hope’s initial mission was to provide a home for Rwanda cricket fitting of the passion and talents of those who brought the game back with them to the country following the tragic Genocide of 1994. Today, the Gahanga International Stadium holds the record for staging the most international ‘T20’ cricket games of any venue in the world. This remarkable statistic reflects the incredible rise of the game, with over 50,000 people now playing – mostly youngsters and equal parts boys and girls.

Now, as well as supporting this growth, CBH delivers programmes that use cricket to support social development and tackle local challenges. Their Women’s Empowerment Programme supports marginalised young women around the stadium, instilling in them a leadership mindset and providing the tools needed for economic advancement. To date, 70% of those graduating have started an income generating activity of their own. As Jacqueline, 25, says,
“I used to think that leadership was for others with grand titles, but after going through the programme, I've discovered that I too am a leader.”

Elsewhere, initiatives support children to access and thrive in school, and provides them with critical sexual and reproductive health knowledge to tackle teenaged pregnancy and other issues. The photo below is from the annual cricket and life skills camps held at Gahanga and open to the whole community.

Please get behind us as we Ride for Rwanda to raise critical funds so that we can continue to give more people the opportunity to play and develop the skills and knowledge needed for a better future!
