Set up in memory of Rosie May Storrie, age 10, who was brutally murdered in 2003. The Rosie May Foundation is a little charity with a BIG vision committed to creating a living legacy for children, especially girls, giving them a future that Rosie May was denied. "Make A Difference Together"

Story

The Rosie May foundation (RMF) is an international childrens charity working in Sri Lanka and Nepal. It exists to give other children the future Rosie May was so tragically denied. The Rosie May Foundation has grown organically over the years and works with children in crisis, creating a living legacy to Rosie May.

The Rosie May Foundation was founded by Rosie Mays parents after the murder of their only daughter, Rosie May age 10 in December 2003. In December 2004 the family decided Christmas at home would be unbearable without their daughter who especially loved this time of year. So they decided to escape with their two sons from the horrific recollections of the year before. On Christmas day in South East Asia a tiny palm tree was planted by Rosies family in memory of their beautiful little girl. On Boxing Day their paradise island in the Indian Ocean was engulfed by the 2004 Asian Tsunami. It claimed more than 230,000 lives across fourteen different countries and was one of the deadliest natural disasters ever recorded. In Sri Lanka, thousands of children were made parentless by the tsunami and this was the inspiration for the foundations very first project the Rosie May Home.

The Rosie May Foundation works directly on the ground in both Sri Lanka and Nepal to protect vulnerable children and prevent them being torn apart from their families through poverty. We aim to break the cycle of institutionalisation and keep children in loving family homes The Rosie May Foundation tackles the root cause of family breakdown by providing holistic, practical support, tailored to the individual needs of each family. We focus on empowerment of girls through education, to realise their rights and give young women a choice in their own future. Education provides a girl with prospects and the family with support. Importantly, educated girls become educated mothers.

The Rosie May Foundation empowers girls through education, to know that they are equal to boys and that every girl can achieve the same as a boy, if not better! Rosie May's mantra at ten years old was "girl power", so how very fitting her living legacy is and how very proud she must be Mary Storrie Rosie Mays Mum and Co- founder.

We were humbled by the bravery of the Sri Lankan people... the enormity of death, devastation and destruction touched everyones lives. Our personal experience of witnessing this tragedy inspired the Rosie May Home for abandoned girls Graham Storrie Rosie Mays Dad and Co- founder.
