Every woman deserves the opportunity to live free from exploitation, abuse, poverty and fear. The Ruby Project exists to support women affected by the sex industry, offering practical help, compassionate support and hope for a different future.

Across the UK, thousands of women involved in the sex industry face significant challenges, including trauma, financial hardship, insecure housing, addiction, domestic violence and sexual abuse. Many struggle to access the support they need due to past experiences, stigma and a lack of safe spaces.

The Ruby Project provides a place of welcome, safety and belonging. Through our women-only drop-in centre, street outreach and community support, we meet women where they are and walk alongside them at their own pace.

Elizabeth’s Story

Elizabeth* turned up to our Drop-In one day after hearing about our service. We supported her with accessing services, including arranging appointments with support agencies to take place during our Drop-In, where we could set aside a quiet, comforting space for the meeting. She also shared with us a history of trying to engage with church, but when she has visited, she would often feel too conspicuous and leave the service.

After her initial visit, she began attending our Drop-In regularly, bravely sharing her challenges with social anxiety, where she finds attending appointments and travel difficult. When we offered to support her in attending them, she told us, "That would definitely change how it looks". We've also had the opportunity to offer alternative ways of engaging with faith and highlighting churches in the area that would welcome her.

She continues to attend our Drop-Ins, and we continue to be amazed at her courage in seeking out support from us and her determination to restore her life to something fulfilling for her.
