Story
Because of Doorstep Library, my daughter became confident and would read voluntarily during her free time which wasn’t something she would usually do.
At a time when fewer than half of UK children enjoy reading, Doorstep Library brings the joy of books directly into family homes, helping children from underserved areas of London to become keen, confident readers and empowering parents and carers to support their children's literacy long-term.
We know our model of transformative, tailored reading sessions is effective. In 2025:
95% of parents/carers said their children's reading ability had improved because of Doorstep Library
91% said reading had become an increasing part of family life
and 84% reported improvements in their children's enthusiasm for learning
[Doorstep Library] has significantly improved [my children’s] reading skills and made a meaningful impact on their lives, both personally and academically.
By supporting our Royal Parks Half Marathon team, you can help us continue making an impact in the lives of children who need support. Just £40 can provide a reading session with two of our highly trained volunteers, while £10 could give a brand new book to a child who might not own a single other book of their own.
