WorldShare has been partnering with Word of Hope in Myanmar for over 20 years. Word of Hope runs Hope Orphanage, which provides around 50 children with a safe and positive home environment where they receive food, clothing, medical checks, educational support and Christian witness. Some of the children are orphaned, some abandoned and some have parents unable to afford to care for them. The children are sponsored through WorldShare’s child sponsorship programme, ChildAid.
Frequent flooding during monsoon season has caused the foundations of the existing girls' dormitory to sink and the structure to deteriorate, making the living conditions unsafe for the girls (see below). Word of Hope therefore need to demolish and rebuild the girls' dormitory urgently.
By supporting this event, you will be helping to fund a new, three-story, reinforced cement concrete dormitory building to safely house the girls. The new building will have dormitory space for the 22 girls currently cared for, plus enough room for an additional 15 vulnerable girls who urgently need to be taken in. Not only that, but the building will also include bathrooms, a kitchen and a dining hall. See artist's impression below.
This building will not only address the current housing crisis but will also ensure that the girls have a conducive space to focus on their education and overall well-being. It is a crucial step towards enhancing the future of these children, allowing them to grow and thrive despite the challenges they face.
Don't forget that thanks to a generous donor, any support raised through this event will be matched £1 for £1, up to a total of £10,000.
So every £1 you give will be doubled!
