Bury Hospice Sahara Trek 2025

Campaign by Bury Hospice

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to trek the infamous Sahara Desert. Trekkers will spend two full days and two half days trekking a total of 50km across ancient dried up river beds, sand dunes and vast-sun baked plains.

Bury Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care to hundreds of residents and their families across Bury. It will cost to run the Hospice this year £4.8million and we raise 83% of this total, but with the support of our community we continue to provide care and services to those who need it.

Story

The Sahara Trek will take place between the 6th Nov 2025 until 11th Nov 2025.

The trekkers will walk through the varied landscape and learn the importance of respecting the forces of nature in the desert. The temperatures will be very high (up to 37C) adding a unique challenge. Sand dune fields are tiring as every step forwards is half a step back but it’s worth it for the views!

On average they will cover 15-20km per day and 50km altogether. They will learn how the nomadic people of the Sahara live: from cooking to sleeping out under the stars and reading the magnificent Sahara night sky.

It will cost £4.8 million this year just to keep Bury Hospice running and we need to raise £4 million ourselves. We have a small team raising vital funds and that is why we value your donations and the support of the community so much.

Please show your support for our intrepid trekkers as they take on the Sahara Trek because every donation counts.
