Bury Hospice Sahara Trek 2025

JENNY ASPRAY is raising money for Bury Hospice

SAHARA TREK · 6 November 2025

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to trek the infamous Sahara Desert. Trekkers will spend two full days and two half days trekking a total of 50km across ancient dried up river beds, sand dunes and vast-sun baked plains.

Story

Earlier this year, I read about the Japanese philosophy Misogi that encourages stepping out of our comfort zones and setting yourself a challenge. It inspired me to take on an epic challenge this year. So I will be going on a Sahara Trek from the 6th to the 11th of November, 2025.

This trek will take me through the breath-taking and varied landscapes of the Sahara Desert, where I will learn to respect the powerful forces of nature that shape this unique environment.

With temperatures soaring up to 37°C, this journey promises to be a true test of endurance and spirit. I've heard that traversing the sand dune fields can be exhausting, as every step forward feels like half a step back!

On average, we will cover between 15-20 km each day while immersing ourselves in the rich culture of the nomadic people who call this desert home—learning their ways of cooking, sleeping under a blanket of stars, and marvelling at the magnificent night sky.

Going one step further out of my comfort zone I am also taking on the Great North run (half marathon) on 6th September to train for this challenge.

As someone who isn't particularly fond of sand or heat, this trek is undoubtedly outside my comfort zone! However, it’s not just about personal growth; it’s about making a difference. I am raising funds for Bury Hospice, an organization that provides essential support to those in need within our community. My target is to raise £2,000 to help ensure they can continue their vital work.

I invite you to join me on this journey by sponsoring me in any way you can. Your support will not only help me conquer this challenge but also contribute significantly to a cause that touches many lives in Bury.
