Helpline advisers understand what Parkinson's really is, the many ways it affects lives, how difficult it is to cope with and how many unexpected impacts it can have. The helpline advisers are there to work out what someone needs if its a person to talk to, they listen; if its specific advice, they signpost to Parkinson's UK vast information resources or their specialist Parkinson's nurses can give detailed information and advice; if its help with benefits, their Benefits and Appeals team can help to appeal disability benefit decisions; if its practical help, they can link people to local advisers who visit people in their homes, or one of 365 volunteer-run local groups across the country who provide a place to seek comfort and understanding.
The helpline receives over 2,700 calls a month and it costs Parkinson's UK £18 to have one adviser work on the helpline for an hour. We are delighted to therefore be supporting Parkinson's UK over the next two years to help continue to fund this vital resource for people living with Parkinson's.
Tony Wellby, Director and Head of Charity Committee:
I am delighted that staff members at Saunderson House have overwhelmingly selected Parkinson's UK as our charity partner for. Many of our staff and clients have a friend or family member with Parkinson's and so they are acutely aware of the debilitating effects it can have on sufferers, as well as those around them. We are very much looking forward to supporting Parkinson's UK with resources, energy and our expertise in helping them further their quest to improve the lives of everyone affected by Parkinson's, and to ultimately find a cure.
