Story
Take on a European adventure with a trek, bike and kayak triple in Slovenia! With the soaring peaks of the Julian Alps and the sparkling blue-green lake of Bohinj, the picturesque location is the perfect setting for an incredible few days raising money for St Barnabas Hospice.
On Saturday 11th June, it is St Barnabas Hospices 40th birthday! What better way to celebrate than to join us for the adventure of a lifetime?
Slovenia is a regular feature in the Sustainable Destinations Top 100, celebrated for their efforts for responsible and sustainable tourism. You will be travelling with Adventurous Ewe, a company which has sustainability at its core. During your trip you will use local guides, accommodation and food and drink businesses. A percentage of the money Adventurous Ewe takes will be donated to Cool Earth a charity focusing on halting tropical deforestation and backed by Sir David Attenborough.
There are only 16 available spaces so be quick to guarantee your place!
This event will take place between the 15th and 19th June 2022.
Trek
Immerse yourself in snow-capped peaks to ascend Mount Triglav, Slovenias highest peak which stands at 2,864m above sea level. The climb to the summit takes you along a breath-taking trail, including the opportunity for scrambling and small sections of via ferrata. When you reach the top, take in panoramic views as far as Austria, Italy and Croatia! Completing this summit is a rite of passage that all Slovenians aim to achieve at least once in their lifetime.
Distance: 30km (over two days)
Bike
Swap your hiking boots for a bike and embark on an exciting adventure along scenic cycle trails. Your cycling route will run along the banks of the Sava Bohinjka River in the Lower Bohinj Valley and through the alpine villages of the Upper Bohinj Valley. You will be cycling on a mixture of tarmac and trails.
Distance: 25km
Kayak
The adventure ends with a magnificent kayak journey from the crystal-clear shores of Lake Bohinj and down the Sava Bohinjka River, taking in small sections of rapids which are so much fun!
The cycling and kayaking will take place during the same day.
How much does it cost?
The registration fee is £195, then we ask you to raise a further £1,850 in sponsorship money. Of this money raised, £930 plus your registration fee will cover the trip costs and the remaining £920 will go directly to patient care and support. As a small note, the price we offer and the price Adventurous Ewe offers are different. The reason for this is because when purchased through us, your purchase will also get you your return flights and a Adventurous Ewe guide. Alternatively, you can choose to pay £1,125 up front and then raise the additional £920 in sponsorship money. By way of example, each £65.45 raised in sponsorship money would pay for a specialist doctor to work out a personalised pain relief medication plan for a terminally ill patient.
How will we support you?
Once you are registered, we will support you all the way up to and including the event itself. You will be provided with a discount card for local sports and outdoor gear outlets, sponsorship forms, fundraising posters and fundraising/training support, as well as a training guide. You will be personally supported by Paisley in our Fundraising team, as well as the event organisers at Adventurous Ewe. Upon signing up, you will receive a training pack including branded tech top and branded snood. You will also be invited to join a private Facebook group to get to know others on the challenge and share training tips, updates and more. Once in Slovenia, you will be supported by not only a local guide and safety expert, but also a member of the Adventurous Ewe team.
How will your support help us? :
Your sponsorship money will make a real difference to patients and families across Lincolnshire who are living with a life-limiting or terminal illness. Your fundraising will help to ensure that St Barnabas Hospice can care for more patients and families near you, every day of the year.
