SCOT has served the Tamil speaking people of Sri Lanka, with your support, for more than forty years. Tamil areas today have fallen far behind the other areas in Sri Lanka. These Tamil areas rank at the bottom of education, employment, health and socio-economic tables due to neglect and Ethnic war.

Story

Current economic climate has significantly affected the Tamil areas which already had highest levels of poverty and unemployment in Sri Lanka. There is an urgent need to develop employment opportunities and make them stand on their own feet.

We seek funding to continue our support previously committed project registration of cattle in Batticaloa to significantly improve income of the farmers and establish the foundation for value added products, tuition centres in remote areas and for children in care homes, farming and small industries.

We are developing, together with partners on the ground, significant employment & empowerment opportunities:

concrete slabs & fence posts production in Mannar by group of disabled youth

innovative agricultural opportunities in Trinco

value added services for rice production

reorganising and adding value for milk & dairy products

fresh & brackish water inland fisheries.

The above projects are planned to secure the long-term future of our people. These require initial funding but once established they are designed to pay for themselves and grow.

Please help us with your generous contribution and encourage other diaspora organisations to partner with us.

Please support by contributing generously via this JustGiving website when it is active and at any time via SCOT website (www.scot-uk.org.uk).
