Story
Nearly 29 million children in East and Southern Africa are living with a disability. Too many of them face a life of exclusion—denied access to education, healthcare, and the chance to be part of their community. Many live in poverty, vulnerable to violence, exploitation, and abuse.
At Able Child, we believe that no child with a disability should be left behind. We work with a network of organisations across Africa to protect, educate, and amplify the voices of children and young people with disabilities. Together, we are breaking down barriers to inclusion so that every child has the chance to learn, play, and thrive.
Why Walk?
By joining our Steps for Change 10K Challenge, you’re taking action to build a more inclusive world. Every step you take will help:
✅ Provide children with disabilities access to inclusive education.
✅ Support families, parents and children to become disability rights advocates.
✅ Train teachers to create learning environments where every child belongs.
✅ Push for policies that ensure children with disabilities are protected and included.
Over the last 40 years, Able Child has:
Trained 7,500+ teachers in inclusive education, reaching over 150,000 children.
Supported 20,000+ parents to advocate for disability rights.
Worked with 800+ government officials to drive policy change for inclusion.
But our journey is far from over. There are still millions of children who need our support. That’s why we need you.
