Loneliness and social isolation are chronic problems for the elderly in the North East. An estimated 50,000 pensioners in the region are chronically lonely and are 50% more likely to die prematurely than people with good social networks.
Many are dog lovers and when they ask for a furry friend from Wag & Company, they get the bonus of a very nice two legged one at the same time.
We never charge so that no one ever needs to miss out and over 2,300 older people are regularly benefitting every week from Berwick-upon-Tweed, down to Northallerton, across to Brampton and everywhere in between.
With your support we can help more people like: Dave in Tyne & Wear who is deaf and has a number of health issues and was devastated when he lost his beloved Connie, his hearing dog and can’t have another dog. Whilst she can’t replace Connie, Brontë the Friendship Cockapoo now has a special place on his lap and on his heart. Elsie from Newcastle who says that when she strokes Pringle the Retriever's head she feels her stress lift and gets so much comfort from feeling her presence by her side and on her foot! Gladys is 91, had dogs all her life and goes days and days without seeing anyone. “Jasper is my treasure and cheers me up no end and Helen is a good friend too, we talk about all sorts of things. He likes his chews and he likes his custard creams biscuits, I really look forward to seeing them every week”
Our group of jumpers are doing this for them and for everyone like them who just need regular a visits from friends.
Thank you ♥️
