Story

In 2019, a very special boy, called Larsen, invented the Slideathon.

Larsen wanted to raise money for the children's hospital where he was being treated for a rare and aggressive brain tumour. Every Monday, he would walk into the hospital and admire the fundraising board which celebrated the challenges and adventures that others had taken on to raise money for children like him. He knew that at just 4 years old, he wasn't big enough to take on a sky dive or run a marathon... and that got him thinking, exactly what could a 4 year old do? That's it! He had it! A Slideathon! Larsen vowed to complete a slide-marathon: 26 slides in a day! Larsen completed his Slideathon over Easter and was cheered on by friends and family, travelling to slides, play parks, waterparks and farm parks around Nottinghamshire to find 26 different slides and he raised thousands of pounds for the hospital and he now proudly features on the fundraising board he used to admire.

Sadly, Larsen's brain tumour was too rare and too aggressive and the treatment he was given was unsuccessful. After facing multiple brain surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Larsen died at Christmas in 2019.

The following year, Larsen's little brother Jesse took on the Slideathon in his memory. The year after, friends and family around the country took on the Slideathon too. In 2022, the Slideathon grew even bigger, and for the first time, raised money for Larsen's Pride, our charity set up in his name.

This Easter, 2024, we want the Slideathon to be the biggest ever. We want more children to slide on more slides, in more places, raising money for more children, just like Larsen, who face the devastation of a brain tumour diagnosis and treatment. You can slide down your garden slide 26 times, you can slide 26 slides at a water park, you can slide 26 different slides near your house - the choice is yours!

No matter how little may be, how small you may feel, we want you to know that you can make a big difference - and have lots of fun at the same time!

Join our Slideathon this Easter and help us to improve the lives of children with brain tumours

Larsen's Pride was set up in memory of Larsen, who died aged 5 years old, from a rare and aggressive brain tumour. Our mission is to improve the lives of the youngest brain tumour patients (0-12) during their treatment. We do this through the delivery of soft toys and clinical resources.
