Story
As custodians of the historically important Sutton Miniature Railway, Vintage Trains Charitable Trust has ambitious plans to restore and operate this famous little railway for future generations to enjoy.
The initial phase of our plan includes the following elements which are really quite exciting. For an estimated £25,000 we could deliver the following:
Re-instatement of an initial 200 yards of track for operations at Tyseley.
Complete refurbishment of the former Dudley Zoo railcar, including the fitment of air brakes and push pull mechanism with two carriages, adjustments to the petrol engine and driver seating arrangements.
Complete refurbishment of two closed carriages, including push pull operation with the railcar.
Purchase of custom made heavy duty covers for refurbished coaches.
Assessment of Sutton Belle Locomotive for rebuild, including the design and approval of a new boiler.
Creation of an SMR visitor display using the publicity boards recovered from Cleethorpes.
Preliminary design for the re-creation of a battery powered Great Yarmouth two car railcar.
Of course, the whole project to completion will cost very much more than £25,000, but we all have to start somewhere. The quicker funds are raised, the sooner we will hear SMR loco whistles once more.
