Too many women stay in abusive relationships simply because they can’t afford to leave.
At Soul Sisters, we work with survivors every day who want to escape—but are trapped by money. Rent deposits, furniture, food, childcare, therapy, court fees… the cost of safety is often out of reach.
We created The Freedom Fund to change that.
“I wanted to leave for over a year. But I had no savings, no family I could stay with, and nowhere to go. He made me believe I’d be homeless with two kids. I stayed until I broke.”
— Ella, survivor and contributor to The Freedom Fund campaign
Ella’s story is just one of many. In 2023, she tried to leave, but financial pressure pulled her back. When she finally escaped in 2024, it cost her over £5,000 to do so—and she had to take time off her self-employed work to recover.
She’s now safe, healing, and helping us create this fund so no woman feels as alone as she once did.
It can cost up to £50,000 to leave abuse in the UK (Women’s Aid, 2023).
Legal fees alone can reach £10,000, and private therapy starts at £40–80 per session.
That’s why we’re raising £75,000—to support 30 women with what they need to get out and start again.
“When we say survivors need help to leave, we don’t mean emotional support. We mean rent, food, clothes for their kids, and someone to help carry the weight of starting over.”
