Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

The virtual Go the Distance event proved hugely successful over the past two years, and as we now move into a new hybrid era, the question for 2022: live or virtual? Well, why not both! Thats right, for 2022 we are thrilled to announce a new event: Source to Sea, and you get to choose if you want to take part in the live challenge or the virtual event, or both if you are extra keen! Both events will be run in parallel, raising funds for our UK charity of the year, Refuge.

The live challenge Source to Sea is a relay format covering the Thames Path in person on foot, from its source in the quaint village of Kemble, in the Cotswolds, to the charming seaside town of Whitstable, Kent where the Thames meets the sea. As in previous years, the route is split into stages, with individuals or teams covering part of the route. Participants of all athletic abilities are welcome and we would love for you to join us on the challenge. You can choose to walk, jog or run. No times, no pressure, just challenge yourself and be part of something amazing, in helping us collectively cover the 400km route. The live event will start on Monday 20 June and finish on Friday 24 June.

The virtual Source to Sea event builds on the successful formula fine-tuned over the past two years, so if the live challenge is not for you, please join our community and help to collectively cover the same distance as the live event but in your own time and from the ease of your home, workplace or gym. No distance is too big or too small . . . just challenge yourself and let our community help you reach your personal goal.

The virtual event will take place over seven days, starting on Monday 20 June, and finishing on Sunday 26 June. As long as you can record your distance the exercise you choose is your choice, such as walking the dog, running to the shops, cycling to work, swimming in your local pool, an early morning row etc. No times, no pressure, just record the distance to make virtual event total.
