Story

The London 10K has been the central challenge event of the SpecialEffect calendar for over a decade. Over that time, the number of people running for us has grown from just a handful in 2009 to almost 200 in 2019! At the beginning of 2020, we were hoping to gather our biggest team EVER to hit the streets of London this July and raise much needed funds to support our work with disabled gamers. At that point, we never could have imagined what would have happened in the past few months.

At the end of April we learned that the 2020 ASICS London 10K had been indefinitely postponed, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic social distancing measures. With the possibility of the organisers arranging an alternative date later in the year highly unlikely in the current circumstances, we have decided to take matters into our own hands and organise a Virtual London 10K just for Team SpecialEffect runners! Same date, same time, same distance just running in your own locality and in accordance with the current Government guidelines at that time.

Can we get 200 people around the world running 10K for SpecialEffect all at the same time? Cmon, we can do this!

How it works: sign-up FOR FREE through our website and start your training. Then on Sunday 5th July we will all set-off together at 09.00 BST* along our own local routes. It has become something of a tradition for our runners to dress-up as their favourite games characters at the London 10K and we heartily encourage anyone who wants to run in costume to do so! When youve completed the distance, simply upload evidence of your run to the RealBuzz website to receive a unique SpecialEffect medal. We are even looking at options to stage a pre-race meet-up and post-race celebration afterwards!

Once you have registered, a representative from SpecialEffect will be in touch to help you set-up a donation page and provide helpful information every step of the way. Well even send you a SpecialEffect running T-shirt or vest in the post if you need one!
