Story
On 26 and 27 June 2026, parents, staff and friends of St Mary Magdalen's Catholic Primary School will be riding over 170 miles from London to Amsterdam to help raise much needed funds for the school and to support this year's chosen charity, Kids for Kids (helping young people in Darfur, Sudan).
It will take cycle shoes stronger than clogs, legs spinning faster than windmills and possibly even a little bit of Dutch courage for our riders to make it, and your support will give them the motivation they need!
How will your donation help children in Darfur?
In Sudan, at this very moment, there are children in intolerable poverty. They are hungry, thirsty and living in conditions that shouldn’t exist in the 21st century. They urgently need support just to survive. That's why we a portion of the money we raise from this campaign will be given to Kids for Kids.
The work of Kids for Kids really epitomises helping people to help themselves. They adopt remote villages around Darfur, listen to the community to understand the support they need and then implement sustainable initiatives relating to provision of food, clean water, education and healthcare. Most importantly, they train the villagers to run these initiatives themselves for the long term.
For example, when Kids for Kids adopt a village, hey give the poorest 15% of families a loan of some nanny goats and teach them how to manage the animals. This gives the family protein-rich milk and yoghurt, and can also provide income if they have a surplus.
These initiatives are truly saving and transforming lives long term.
How will your donation help pupils at St Mary Magdalen's?
Outdoor spaces are key to the physical and emotional wellbeing of all children. They are somewhere that our children spend a lot of their learning time, particularly in earlier years of their education.
The school has a long term project to renovate its outdoor spaces. The first phase of this project was completed last year, providing new soft surfaces, repainting sports courts and improving play-based learning areas. This was in part supported with funding raised through our last cycle event from London to Bruges in 2024 and has already been transformative for our children.
The PTA is committed to support the school to complete the wonderful work already begun in redeveloping our outdoor areas. Your donation will help make this redevelopment a reality!
