Story

We're Raising Funds for Age UK East Sussex

As we get older, some challenges become harder to face alone — and that’s where Age UK East Sussex comes in. They offer practical help and reassurance to thousands of local older people across our county each year.

Loneliness is one of the biggest issues many people face later in life. Back in 2023, Cadbury worked with Age UK, the national charity, to highlight the reality of isolation for older people. While the Cadbury campaign has now ended - the need is greater than ever and thats why we are supporting our local charity, Age UK East Sussex and their Befriending Team.

The Befriending Team at Age UK East Sussex connects local volunteers with older people for regular chats and companionship, helping to reduce the impact of loneliness. Each year, more people reach out for this service — and to keep up with demand, the charity needs our support.

Age UK East Sussex (formerly known as Age Concern East Sussex) are an independent charity, seperate from Age UK, the national charity. Age UK East Sussex only works locally in our area and they don't benefit from large external funding. This local work relies soley on donations to keep these vital services going. Last year alone, they supported over 16,000 older people in East Sussex — and the need is growing.

Here’s how you could help:

£5/month could help provide one-to-one advice for someone living alone.

£10/month could help set up several befriending calls.

£15/month could support Benefits Checks — often unlocking over £5,000 a year in unclaimed income, helping people stay connected and better cope with rising living costs.

£25/month could help fund a scams officer, protecting vulnerable people and recovering more than £500,000 a year for victims.

Your support can make a real difference locally — helping older people feel safer, more connected, and better supported in our communities.

Please consider making a donation to help keep these essential services running.

Thank you.
