Update

With your generosity, FOSL has completed Phase 1 of our disaster response, delivering dry rations, cooked meals, and essential supplies to families in the worst hit villages of Badulla District.

We are now beginning Phase 2, focusing on rebuilding: supporting affected children with school supplies and clothing, assisting damaged hospitals, and identifying families who lost their homes.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Every contribution brings hope and helps Sri Lanka rise again. 🇱🇰✨

Story

Since mid-November 2025, torrential rain influenced by Cyclone Ditwah has caused:

* Catastrophic flooding

* Massive landslides

* Swept-away homes and villages

* At least 437 lives lost, with many more missing

* Thousands displaced and forced into temporary shelters

Over a million people across all 25 districts are severely affected. More than 50,000 homes have been destroyed, sending 148,000 people to state-run temporary shelters, the Disaster Management Centre reported

Mountain regions have suffered deadly landslides, while low-lying areas remain submerged for days. Families have lost everything homes, income, safety, and in many cases, loved ones.

This is one of the most destructive weather disasters Sri Lanka has faced in recent years.

🛑 Critical infrastructure has collapsed

The combined impact of Cyclone Ditwah and continuous rainfall has caused:

⚠️Major roads and bridges to be washed away, cutting off entire communities

⚠️Railway lines severely damaged, with sections of track swept away completely

⚠️Landslides blocking access routes, delaying rescue operations

⚠️Rescue workers unable to reach the worst-hit villages due to washed-out road

⚠️Electricity networks heavily damaged, leaving many areas in darkness for day

⚠️Telecommunication systems disrupted, making it impossible for families to contact loved ones

⚠️Some regions of the country are still unreachable, leaving people trapped without food, water, or medical support

Sri Lanka is battling not just a natural disaste; but a complete breakdown of essential services.
