In Dhaka alone, it is estimated that 500,000 children are forced to live on the street. Instead of receiving a strong education and a loving family home, these children are living in constant fear of abuse, trafficking and exploitation. This is not right.
Muslim Charity has established a Transitional Shelter in Dhaka which rescues street children and provides them a safe space away from the horrors of the streets. In our shelter they are able to get a good night's sleep, clothes, food, informal education, watch TV, as we endeavour to work with the local police network and other authorities to trace their parents and families. Those lost children that we are able to trace families of, are reunited with their families if it is safe to do so. Otherwise the children referred onwards to permanent homes so that they get an education, food and a chance in life.
The annual running cost of the Muslim Charity Transitional Shelter is £45,000 per annum which covers the cost of food, rent for the shelter, psyco-social treatment of rescued children, recreational visits, medicines, salaries of administrative staff including cook, caretakers (mothers), informal school teachers and supervisors etc.
