After many years of service the Sunderland Eye Infirmary is showing its age. In order to continue to provide the best possible Eye care for the people the region the South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has decided to build a new Eye Hospital in the centre of Sunderland.

Much of the equipment and facilities in the existing eye infirmary can and will be transferred to the new eye hospital, but this development gives us the opportunity to bring cutting edge treatments and technology to an existing regional centre of excellence.

This is where the stsCharity and its Vision appeal comes in. The charity with your help, can acquire new equipment for the Eye Hospital that would not be funded through normal NHS sources. Helping to bring the most advanced eye care available to the North East.

What are we looking to fund?

Just like mobile phones, technology changes very quickly in the world of eye treatment. We have set our sights on a number of key pieces of equipment. This is over and above the kit that we will install as part of the new Eye Hospital.

We are hoping to buy the following for the New Eye Hospital; A visual fields testing machine, Flexible 3D eye scanning machines, Hi-tech ceiling microscopes, 3D eye scanning machines, Adjustable examination chairs, Phaco machines and Advanced camera technology.

This equipment ranges in cost from a few thousand pounds to over a hundred thousand pounds per unit.
