Story
Schools are recommended to introduce The Daily Mile to children as a 15 minute session every day as the impact can be transformational - improving not only the children's fitness but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing. It is a simple and straight forward initiative that has been acknowledged for reducing childhood obesity and recognised within the UK Governments 2018 childhood obesity strategy. All the staff, parents, carers and friends associated with St Thomas' are totally dedicated in this initiative and bringing this to life within in our school. It goes hand in hand with our new healthy eating policy and caring for our children's health, fitness and wellbeing both physically and mentally.
The children of St Thomas' were the ones who who requested an outdoor gym through their School Council. They have been instrumental in creating a plan for a standalone exercise facility and selecting the specific junior gym equipment they would like to use and therefore installed which includes a variety of apparatus which includes Tai Chi Spinners, Double Air-Walker, Double Cross Country Skier and many more. They want to be able to incorporate gym exercise into their playtime or use the fitness station as part of a warm up session before a run on the Daily Mile Track or PE class.
