What better way to raise money for a running track than raise it by running?!?!
My mum absolutely loved running and it was because of her I got into the sport. I rapidly progressed from a 5k to doing the London Marathon in just 3 years!
So...once you’ve run a marathon, what do you do? Well most people say that’s it! But I needed another challenge to work towards. So the logical next step?!? An ultra marathon. These are distances that are rarely talked about but are becoming more and more popular. The ultra distance I have (and also roped my husband into doing!) chosen is 50miles.
We will be setting off from Old Trafford in Manchester at 6am on Good Friday and hope to arrive in Liverpool by 6pm. The half way point is roughly at Latchford Locks so feel free to come along and cheer us on our way. Sweets, food, drink & hugs will be much welcomed at this point!!!
Here’s a bit more about why the school are raising money for a track:
Schools are recommended to introduce The Daily Mile to children as a 15 minute session every day as the impact can be transformational - improving not only the children's fitness but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing. It is a simple and straight forward initiative that has been acknowledged for reducing childhood obesity and recognised within the UK Governments 2018 childhood obesity strategy. All the staff, parents, carers and friends associated with St Thomas' are totally dedicated in this initiative and bringing this to life within in our school. It goes hand in hand with our new healthy eating policy and caring for our children's health, fitness and wellbeing both physically and mentally. The children of St Thomas' were the ones who who requested an outdoor gym through their School Council. They have been instrumental in creating a plan for a standalone exercise facility and selecting the specific junior gym equipment they would like to use.
