Story
For over 10 years we have offered our local community the opportunity for the children to take part in a summer school and we always offer food, as the rainy season can be a difficult time for parents to feed their families.
We always include topics in the timetable that encompass health and the environment, then at the end of the 4 week programme a presentation by the children is organised so their parents can also receive the environmental / health messages.
We always raise enough funds for the scheme to go ahead, however, when our fundraising is particularly successful, we are able to provide more for the students in terms of teacher /student ratio, more nutritious food, resources and sometimes we are able to organise a day trip out for the children to explore areas of their own country that they have never seen as many have never left the village. e.g. Banjul (the capital city) or a museum .
This year we are planning an environmental / bird protection theme with the children passing on to their parents what they have learnt at the end of event celebration.
