Story

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in Wales and when there is a family history of the disease the risk increases to 1 in 3. This means that it is likely that every Swans fan knowns someone affected by this cancer.

Swans Foundation wants to do its part in helping to reduce these dreadful statistics. Working in partnership with Prostate Cymru and Maggies Cancer Care, we aim to improve the early detection of prostate cancer and support families recovering from cancer. Additionally, In partnership with the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal, which has held many events at Football Clubs around the UK, we plan to run a testing event at the Swansea.com Stadium. This will raise awareness of both prostate cancer and prostate disease, and it will help save lives. Catching prostate cancer early drastically raises chances of survival, making screenings such as these crucial for saving lives.

The first of our annual bike rides, Swans Cycle Challenge will raise funds for the Foundation's health projects and to help tackle prostate cancer. The route will be over 150 miles over 2 days, starting at the home of West Bromwich Albion, The Hawthorns, and finishing at the Swansea.com Stadium, ahead of the final Championship fixture of the 2022-23 season between Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Riders will depart from The Hawthorns on Friday 5th May, cycling to Hereford where they will stay overnight. On Saturday 6th May riders will cycle from Hereford to the Swansea.com Stadium. All participants will then attend the Swansea City vs West Bromwich Albion fixture on Monday 8th May taking part in a lap of honour around the pitch prior to kick off to celebrate the achievement.
