The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer. Our mission is to save lives and improve outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer through research, information, awareness and support.

Story

The Team Clyde Trophy walk will see participants cover a 36.2 mile route from the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool to Anfield, and then ‘bring the trophy home’ from Anfield to Ewood Park.

Primary bone cancer is rare... it’s also rare for teams outside the ‘big five’ of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool to lift the Premier League trophy. In fact, only two teams have done that since the league was formed in 1992.

One of those rare teams is Blackburn Rovers, who lifted the trophy thirty years ago this year on the 14th May at Anfield. So this year, the weekend after the anniversary of that happening, Team Clyde will be walking from the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool to Anfield and then will be ‘bringing the trophy home’ from Anfield to Ewood Park, on Sunday 18th May.

The route is 36.2 miles, with checkpoints along the way.

People are invited to join us to walk as little or as much of the route as they want to, which will be finishing at Ewood Park home of the Blackburn Rovers.

It’s friends and family of Jen Bellamy who sewed the seed of this being an idea, the idea then quickly grew to become the Team Clyde Trophy Walk... but as it’s the 30th anniversary of Rovers lifting the trophy this year at Anfield, Blackburn being Jen’s team and her receiving chemotherapy treatment (for primary bone cancer) at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool for the second year on the trot, the stars all seemed to align for this being something that needed to happen this year.

And they're doing it all to raise awareness and funds for the very wonderful Bone Cancer Research Trust.

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!

Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives! They’re also helping fund research to find kinder and more targeted treatments for bone cancer patients.
