Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity bringing individuals, families and professionals together to beat muscle-wasting conditions.

Story

Olivia and long standing friends Tierney and Taylor (aka Team Dusty) have taken the decision to raise funds in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in October 2021.

Olivia's brother Ed, a wheelchair user for most of his life who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and relies on almost 24 hour assistance every day, is the inspiration behind the decision to take on this huge challenge which will see them complete a 7-day trek up the highest single free-standing mountain in the world. On some days the group will be climbing for as much as 12 hours and be camping on the mountain during the night.

Duchene muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder which causes muscles to progressively weaken and waste greatly reducing life expectancy. Daily medication is required and the condition severely affects the heart and lung muscles causing great difficulties in breathing without mechanical assistance.

However there is hope for the future with many amazing medical advances and now clinical trials happening to treat the underlying causes of the disease. Lifespan is also increasing due to improved cardiac and respiratory care but there is still much more to do.

Please support Team Dusty by helping them to reach their fundraising target knowing they will be scaling new heights together to support Ed and everyone affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy
