Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) is a community organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable migrants across London, regardless of their immigration status. In a climate where divisive political rhetoric unfairly blames migrant communities for systemic issues, our work has become more vital than ever.

We remain committed in advocating for and standing in solidarity with our community.

For 17 years, HMC has been at the heart of the community, providing crucial support to migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Since opening our doors, we have assisted thousands of individuals with expert legal advice and practical support addressing immigration challenges, insecure housing, financial hardship, and wellbeing.

Our strength lies in our holistic approach. We recognise that vulnerable migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers face intersecting challenges that shape their experiences in the UK – from precarious housing and insecure immigration status to limited access to public transport and basic needs. Our 360-degree support ensures that our visitors receive more than just help with their Home Office applications. We do not only provide legal assistance but also a welcome community space operating twice a month, support in accessing the NHS, food bank vouchers, advocacy for free school meals for families, and much more!

HMC began as a volunteer-led organisation, and we continue to uphold the spirit of community involvement and representation. Half of our volunteers have lived experience of migration and have benefited from HMC's support over the years. Through regular volunteer forums, we foster a participatory approach, ensuring HMC remains a space where everyone’s contributions shape our work.
