Welcome! We are TEAM STREAMS! Join Us!
We are the riverkeepers, the paddlers, and the anglers. We are the people closest to growing gills. We believe our waterways exemplify the interconnectedness of all things and serve as a foundation for a healthy ecosystem and a thriving human society. Yet we also know that our waterways continue to decline in abundance and health across the state.
Team Streams is one of three teams competing in the 2020 Conservation Games, a multi-week celebration and fundraising experience to support the conservation work of Capital Region Land Conservancy in the Richmond region. Team Streams is specifically working to support the conservation of our region's waterways and riparian habitats! You can become part of Team Streams by fundraising and participating in the free learning and volunteer events below. Help us gather as many points as possible before the Closing Ceremony on October 25th!

Water ecosystems serve as habitat for countless species of plants and animals, and they help store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere ("blue" carbon sequestration). For humans, our waterways provide drinking water, irrigation, transportation, recreation, and an unrivaled sense of peace and connection to the natural world.
At Team Streams, we see an inseparable union between how we treat our land and the quality of our water. One of the biggest issues facing Virginia's waterways is non-point source pollution (i.e., not from a pipe or other discrete discharge point) such as run-off from our region's farms, impervious surfaces, and construction sites. In advocating for the protection of waterways, we emphasize the importance of protecting or creating riparian buffers: areas of vegetation between land and water that reduce the risk of run-off harming waterways.
From the land to the underground aquifers to streams and rivers to the Chesapeake Bay, we know that everything comes back to the water. We stand for the protection and care of our region's waterways and the creatures therein.
