Story
The Brompton Fountain supports children's heart and lung care at Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital and their network of partner hospitals throughout Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Based at Royal Brompton Hospital, we work with nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams to ensure that paediatric patients and their families receive specialised support and resources, regardless of where the child is treated within the Trust’s network.
Our charity maintains a close relationship with patients and their families from the moment a diagnosis (or referral to the trust) is made. By engaging at this early stage, often during pregnancy, we provide essential guidance and care right from the outset. This approach ensures that families receive the best possible support both during hospital stays and within their local communities, providing continuity of care and reassurance for families throughout their journey.
Services continue beyond childhood -through collaboration with adult departments to deliver coordinated support for young people as they transition from paediatric to adult healthcare. We also partner with clinical staff and the wider NHS on research aimed at improving outcomes for children affected by cardiac and respiratory conditions.
In addition to our comprehensive support services, we fund vital medical equipment, including portable defibrillators which are essential for children at risk of sudden cardiac arrest due to acute heart conditions. These devices can be lifesaving in emergency situations, enabling prompt intervention and increasing the chances of survival.
We also invest in hospital projects that actively improve the standard of care provided to children. These initiatives focus on creating a supportive and nurturing atmosphere within paediatric wards, making a real difference to the experiences of young patients undergoing cardiac surgery or treatment for a heart or lung condition.
