Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Porchlight have seen a doubling in referrals of rough sleepers between February and March, and managed to get 107 people off the streets in a single weekend. They are also working with food banks to deliver desperately needed parcels to struggling families, and helping people apply for housing benefit and other forms of financial aid so they can get through the weeks and months ahead. The calls to the helpline have increased by 27% in the same period. In other words, Porchlight needs our support more than ever!
So, despite not being able to be together at school, we are challenging our Novi to be creative and enter into the spirit of the Sleepout however they can in their homes across the globe. We are asking them to still build shelters wherever is safe in their homes or gardens and we will link as a virtual community on the night, with competitions still run for building the best shelters! By coming together in this way we hope that the boys will better understand the situation of those young people in Kent who find themselves without somewhere safe to live, particularly in these difficult times.
Please support in whatever way you can to help Porchlight support the most vulnerable in Kent. Thank you.
